Electrical Outlet & Switch Relocation

Moving outlets and switches is common during remodels and renovations. Maybe you’re rearranging a room, or the furniture layout doesn’t work with the current outlet placement. We’ll relocate outlets and switches to where they make sense for how you actually use the space.

Relocating electrical devices involves extending or rerouting wiring, patching old locations, and installing new boxes in the new spots. We’ll make sure the wiring is properly extended with secure connections, the new boxes are installed correctly, and everything is up to code. We also patch and repair the old locations so you’re not left with holes in your walls.

Sometimes relocation is straightforward—just moving a switch a few feet. Other times, it requires running new wiring from the circuit source. We’ll assess what’s needed and get it done efficiently. We also make sure the new locations meet code requirements for spacing and placement.

Technical Specifications

Outlet and switch relocation requires proper wire splicing using approved methods (wire nuts, crimp connectors, or Wago-style connectors) contained within accessible junction boxes, ensuring all connections are secure and meet NEC Article 300 requirements. We maintain proper wire gauge continuity throughout the circuit, ensure adequate box volume for wire fill, and verify proper grounding continuity. When extending circuits, we use junction boxes that remain accessible per code, or we run new home runs to the panel if relocation distance makes extension impractical. We ensure proper box mounting and support, maintain code-required spacing for outlets, and verify circuit capacity isn’t exceeded. All work complies with NEC Article 406 for outlet placement and Article 404 for switch requirements.
